It depends on what time the ship would be departing the port. Guests would be required to be back onboard at least 1 hour to the departure.

The hours will be posted in your Freestyle Daily newsletter, there will be announcements made, and also there will be signage as you disembark the ship what time you need to be back on board.

In case of Bermuda cruises, the ship docks at the port for 3 days. You can disembark and embark the ship any time of the day. You have to back on the ship at least 1 hours before sail time on the last day.
At all other destinations where the ship docks in the morning and leaves in the evening, you have to be back on the ship 1 hour before sail time.

You can go ashore shortly after the ship arrives in port on Wednesday and they clear customs, and you can come and go as you please until the ship sails on Friday. I don't believe they "lock up" the ship at night. We had a pier-facing room on our last trip and saw people returning as late as 1am before we turned in.

They'll announce each morning when the ship has been cleared and you can disembark. All aboard time will also be announced, and is usually one hour prior to the scheduled departure time.

Beaches?

How far are the beaches from the pier in Bermuda?

My favorite beach is Elbow Beach. You would have to use the public access road past the Elbow Beach resort. The most popular is probably Horseshoe Bay. If you like waves, they are better at Elbow but no lifeguards. If you're renting mopeds you can check out many beautiful beaches along the south shore. Just take a ride down some of the access roads and explore. One morning I sat alone at a south shore beach that did have so much as a footprint there. It was very secluded and it was pristine. Mopeds are best way to go. Bus system in Bermuda is quite good also. Bus stops indicated by blue & pink poles. If the top is pink bus is going toward Hamilton & blue tops means going away from Hamilton. Cabs are a little pricey but most drivers are happy to answer questions so you can also learn something about the island with most drivers.

As far as distance, depends on which pier as there are 3 cruise piers in Bermuda. Of the beaches mentioned Elbow is closest to Hamilton. (about 10 minutes) Horseshore Bay would be closest to Dockyard. Both of them are too far from St. George. I haven't spent much time on that end of the island.

Nothing is far in Bermuda - it's only about 20 miles end to end. Our favorite beaches are Horseshoe Bay between Dockyard and Hamilton, and Tobacco Bay in St. George's.

Snorkel Park Beach at the Dockyard is the only beach within walking distance. All others are primarily on the South Shore at least 10 miles away. You can get a bus or taxi from the Dockyard to Horseshoe Bay Beach which has changing facilities, snack bar, beach umbrella rentals, etc. It's one of the best beaches on the island. Bus/Ferry day passes can be purchased at the Dockyard.

The best beaches are Elbow Beach, Chaplin Bay, Horseshoe Bay are some of the best beaches. All of them are accessible using the local buses. I believe it is route # 7 (check on it). You can buy multi-day bus pass or single ride tokens.
Snorkel park beach is within walking distance of the beach but there is a small charge to use the beach and IMHO, it's not the best beach around.

The Gem has 1 and 2 night cruises, and the Breakaway has 2 night cruises. On the NCL home page, go to Plan Your Cruise, and filter by "Weekend Cruises" under destination and "New York" under Port of Departure.

ship to buses for excrsions/to get ride to town

It's a short walk to any transportation. We have been to Bermuda 4 times. We always get the 3 day pass for about $30. It is for unlimited bus and ferry service. The ferry takes about 25 minutes to Hamilton and 50 min. to St. Georges. We alway enjoy taking the bus to or from Hamilton (60 minutes). It's nice to experience the areas that are off of the tourist track. The bus drivers are all very accomodating if you just ask them to let you know where you want to get off. Our must sees are: St. Peter's Church at St. Georges, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, any of the smaller beaches. Maps and bus routes and times are available at the info center inside the building where you normally exit the ship from.Enjoy.

The Breakaway docks at the Heritage Wharf in Bermuda. The shore excursion buses, city buses and taxis are parked just outside the port gates. You probably have to walk 200-300 ft.
Just as an FYI, the city bus services are excellent. You can pick up a 1,2 or 3 day pass that allows unlimited hops on the buses. The pass also gets you on the ferry. The bus is the best way to get around town and stops at all the beaches and tourist spots.

It is a short walk, maybe the length of 2 ships; the ship excursions meet right on the pier, and the buses/vans are right there waiting for you. The Bermuda buses/ferries are just slightly past this; less than a 5 -10 min walk from the ship.

Excursion transportation, buses, ferries & taxis are within a very short distance (approx. 2 city blocks) of where the ship docks at the Dockyards Bermuda. Shopping, restaurants, bar & a beach is conveniently located there as well. Check Bermuda tourism sites for more details and check out their bus/ferry passes for getting around the island.

The ship docks at Kings Wharf, it is a 3 min walk to the transportation whether it be the buses or ferries. At the pier as you disembark the ship you can purchase 1,2, or 3 day passes that are good for use on either mode of transportation.
There are also places to rent mopeds or scooters, but it is highly recommended not to try this as for one they drive on the opposite side of the street (compared to the U.S.) and the driving down there is quite erratic.
