I'm booked in a MX category mini suite - the deck plans do not show these rooms - where are they and when can I expect a room number assignment

MX is the code for a guaranteed mini-suite, meaning that you are assured that NCL will provide you with a stateroom of equal or better quality than the minimum for that class of stateroom. Depending upon what rooms other passengers have reserved and what is left over, you are guaranteed to get at least a mini-suite. You could get lucky and be assigned a better stateroom. The only time my wife and I have sailed with a guaranteed room, we did not receive our cabin assignment until we arrived in Barcelona on the day before embarkation, and were pleasantly surprised to find that it was for a balcony room when we had paid for an inside cabin.

MX just means you guarantee a category of stateroom, but you do not get to specifically pick which room. They will assign you a room. It will be at least a room in the category you chose, which in your case is a mini suite. It can be on any deck, but it will be at minimum, a mini suite. You could possibly end up in a higher category room, but you will at the very least, be in a mini suite.

You have a GTY reservation which guarantee accommodation. The rate you got the room is a discount rate which means that the room will be assigned any time after the final payment is done. In some cases, the cabin may be assigned at the time of check-in. Log into your NCL account and check often for updates.

Here is the link for the floor plans on the ship. You can find the generic floor plan and pics for a mini-suite.

I only found them on deck 8 forward via the "Deck Plans" link even though the description says decks 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14. Stateroom is assigned anytime between final payment and the day of boarding so you'll have to check your reservation via "My NCL" frequently to know what stateroom you've been assigned.

NCL has a behind the scenes tour and the bride is part of the tour along with other areas of the ship like the galley, laundry room, environmental systems room etc. There is a fee for the tour. Check onboard at the guest services desk for the exact date and time of the tour.

I would imagine that as long as they are able to receive the game via satellite it will be shown. I cruised in the fall last year, and on Sunday, they were showing all the NFL games in the bars and in the staterooms.

The TV channels available are quite limited. However, there is a large screen in the atrium that they use for presentations. They use the same screen to play movies and NFL football games. The same channel will also be available in your stateroom. I'm sure they will have special events for the Super Bowl. Check the onboard newsletter for details.

On a past cruise the Superbowl was broadcast on the ship in one of the main lounges which was decorated and serving stadium style snacks as well. My guess is that it will be broadcast on the Breakaway in a similar manner but can't guarantee it. You'll have to ask once on board for specifics.

No, the dress code is resort/smart casual the entire cruise. There are 1 or 2 ""Formal or Not"" evenings where it's optional to dress up if you want to and photographers are located usually in the Atrium for portrait photos. Refer to the following link for more info on what to pack/wear.

Totally up to you. They will have a night where its dress up or not, but the great thing about freestyle cruising, no formal dress required. Some people will dress up a little more if they eat in the Manhattan room, but by no means is formal wear required.

It is not required. With NCL's Freestyle Cruising, resort casual is acceptable anywhere on the ship, anytime. There will be one "dress up or not" night during your cruise. You may bring formal wear for that night, but it is not required. For more info, see this link:

Yes, you can use cash to setup your initial account. However, your account will be frozen if you go over the limit until you add more funds. You can use a credit/debit card to setup your account at the port and you can use cash to settle the account on the last night of your cruise to avoid the charges showing up on your credit/debit card.
Also remember that the charges are per person, so you will have to multiply it by the number of guests travelling with you.

You can use any card you like. It's better to use credit cards than debit cards. The temporary hold placed against debit cards can take several days to be released, delaying your access to your money.

The stateroom has a hair dryer but no flat iron. The hair dryer is a basic dryer without any attachments. You are allowed to bring flat iron onboard the ship.
The amenities the ship's stateroom is just as in any hotel. Mini-fridge, phone, TV, coffee maker (not in inside & ocean view staterooms), ice bucket, beach towels, mini-safe, hair dryer, liquid soap and shampoo.

Mini-fridge, phone, TV, coffee maker (not in inside & ocean view staterooms), ice bucket, beach towels, mini-safe, hair dryer, liquid soap and shampoo. However, as irons are prohibited as they are considered a fire hazard I'm not sure if that will apply to a flat-iron.

We just got off of the Breakaway today. We have an 11 year old boy. He had a lot of fun, as did we. We all enjoyed all of the food. There is a good variety. One night there was an Asian evening at the buffet, and also a seafood night (lobster, shrimp, clams, all kids of seafood prepared all different ways). The restaurants are all good. We paid extra for Teppanyaki one night. It was delicious and fun. Quite a show! Make sure to get a burger and fries at the Uptown Bar and Grill. They have the best burgers I have had in a long time! If you don't want to deal with the morning crowds up at the Garden Cafe, go to one of the smaller restaurants that serve breakfast in the morning. It's pretty much the same stuff. If you want real scrambled eggs, go to O'Sheehan's for breakfast. The eggs at the buffet are powdered and kind of yucky. If you have several devices that will require being plugged in, I STRONGLY suggest bringing an extension cord. There are only two plugs in the stateroom. There is a hairdryer provided in the stateroom which is good. I used theirs, even though I packed my own. There is also shampoo and body wash provided in a dispenser. No conditioner though. Oh! And here's a little tip, when you turn the shower on, if you press the button on the left knob as you turn it on it turns further, giving your more water pressure! As for the pools, there is one adult pool with 3 hot tubs - adults only. The kids pool is closer to the water slides. It's not overly exciting, but there is a Nickelodeon themed splash area right next to the kids pool with a shallow wading pool for smaller kids. I just remember thinking I wished the kids pool was similar to the adult pool, but I guess they couldn't do that because of the splash area and the slide exits. The kids program is good. Our son went a few times and really enjoyed himself. The Rock of Ages show is NOT kid appropriate, but a good, fun show for adults. The Burn the Floor show was amazing. We saw "Dueling Pianos" twice. That is some amazing talent! It's kid appropriate up until about 10pm, but it's is loud because it's in a "nightclub" type a room. The seats in the Breakaway theater are horrible. Just horrible. If I had one complaint, that would be it. There is a bar that will push across your butt. You have to slouch in your seat. I wish they would tear every seat out of the theater and replace it. Spice H2O is an adult only area only from 6am - 7pm. After that, anyone is allowed.

Like anything you will find a lot of positive and negative reviews about everything. Personally, I love the food and had no issues with the food.
As far as the pool is concerned, there is only one pool and it tends to get crowded.

Don't pay attention to reviews. I've found that for the most part, negative reviews are mostly from people who are always unhappy. I had a great time on the Breakaway last October and I am embarking again this September. Just go with a positive attitude and you will have a great time.

I was on the Breakaway in early March of this year. Besides the water slides, the pools/hot tubs are essentially the same as they are on any other NCL ship. Once we got to an area where the weather was warmer, on sea days, the pools were very full. In port, even when the weather was warn, the pool deck was a ghost town. This is no different than any other NCL ship I have been on though. If you plan accordingly, you will be able to use the pools. Other than the crowds, there really was no problem with the pools. I think people hogging the hot tubs is a bigger issue than the pools. At times, the water slides had lines, but nothing outrageous.

The mini-suites are a little bigger, but you will not notice the difference really. As far a perks, a mini-suite is not considered a suite, so there are no added benefits. If you are looking for getting a mini-suite, get a spa mini-suite so that you get free access to the spa. I had one of these when I cruised earlier this year, and because the first two days were cool, it was nice to have access to the spa because there is a pool in there as well as other things.
