Yes, you can but personally I find it inconvenient to have to keep tabs on it and the last day your disembarkation would be possibly be delayed if you need to settle any balance due or refund. Refer to the following link for more info.

If you are going to use cash to pay for the on board credit, you will need to have enough to cover any shore excursions, tipping, drinks and any other purchases you make onboard the ship. If you don't have enough funds, your account will be closed and you will not be able to buy anything else on board until you add more funds.
I would suggest setting up the onboard account using your credit card and at the end of the trip settle your account with cash onboard the ship before you disembark. That way nothing will be billed to your credit card.

When you load your spending card, do you just use a credit card and can you request an amount.

You do not load your onboard account (spending card) with an amount when it's secured by credit card. All on board purchases will be billed to your credit card at the end of your cruise. During the cruise you can always check the balance of your onboard account. Loading the spending card is only applicable when using cash or travelers checks.

When you check-in at the port, they will setup an onboard account for you that is linked to your credit card. Any expense onboard the ship will be billed to your room and your credit card will be billed at the end of the trip. You can check your daily expenses using the interactive TV system that will show all your charges.

Yes of course. You are allowed to bring your own sodas, juices and water. You can check them or carry them on board. The products must be sealed or risk confiscation by the security. Make sure you tag them with your room tags so that they are delivered to your stateroom along with your luggage.

Question

How is the parking for the Breakaway at the pier in Manhattan

I was on a previous cruise on the GEM and parked at the pier with no problems, I am concerned with the greater number of passengers on the Breakaway. Is parking at the pier an issue?

There is plenty of parking; there are two lots available so if one is full they direct you to the second lot; both are adjacent to the ship and very convenient.

I don't think it will be an issue but it can depend on how many passengers decide to drive in and how many cruise ships are departing from Manhattan at the time. In the past with 2 or 3 ships leaving we did not have issues but would suggest you check parking facilities within the neighborhood as a contingency.

There is no true promenade that circles the ship such as the Gem, Jewel, Dawn, etc. Deck 8 is the Waterfront and on deck 16 there is a descent area to walk from near the front of the ship thru the jogging track and back up the other side.

DO YOU HAVE TO WEAR FORMAL CLOTHES TO ANY OF THE EATING PLACES?

No, the dress code is resort/smart casual the entire cruise. There are 1 or 2 "Formal or Not" evenings where it's optional to dress up if you want to and photographers are located usually in the Atrium for portrait photos. Refer to the following link for more info on what to pack/wear.

Not if you don't want to; the general rule of thumb is resort or business casual. They will have a "formal or not" night where you can choose to dress formally if you so desire, but it is not required and you will not be out of place however you choose.

Question

Is there wifi on the ship

answer 1
All NCL ships have Wi-Fi. However since the ship is mostly metal, the Wi-Fi signal may not be the best at all places.
You can purchase minutes in blocks of 30/60/100/250 or pay as you use.
Remember that the ship uses satellite communication for internet connection and it's quite slow.

Yes, but it's not free and since it is a satellite connection it is not high speed. Refer to the following link for more info and fees.

Unfortunately the ornaments are only available for sale onboard the ship. NCL's website has a shopping section but it doesn't have the kind of Christmas ornaments you want.

Question

Are there additional Pre-paid gratuities for Haven Spa Suites

We originally booked a mini-suite room and pre-paid our gratuities. We just upgraded to a Haven Spa suite. It says we will have butler and conceierge service. Do we need to add additional gratuities?

We usually budget about $400. for the extra tips in The Haven. The butler and conceierge are not part of the pre-paid gratuities. There is also the Haven restaurant that we normally give extra to some of the wait staff that we get to know.

You can't pre-pay gratuities for your butler or concierge. You should tip them in cash - an amount you feel is commensurate with the services provided - at the end of the cruise, just as you might do with a cabin steward, waiter, bartender, etc. who has gone over and above what you expected.

Wifi is not free, is a satellite connection which can be slow and reception on the ship varies depending on your location on the ship.
