We just got off of the Breakaway today. We have an 11 year old boy. He had a lot of fun, as did we. We all enjoyed all of the food. There is a good variety. One night there was an Asian evening at the buffet, and also a seafood night (lobster, shrimp, clams, all kids of seafood prepared all different ways). The restaurants are all good. We paid extra for Teppanyaki one night. It was delicious and fun. Quite a show! Make sure to get a burger and fries at the Uptown Bar and Grill. They have the best burgers I have had in a long time! If you don't want to deal with the morning crowds up at the Garden Cafe, go to one of the smaller restaurants that serve breakfast in the morning. It's pretty much the same stuff. If you want real scrambled eggs, go to O'Sheehan's for breakfast. The eggs at the buffet are powdered and kind of yucky. If you have several devices that will require being plugged in, I STRONGLY suggest bringing an extension cord. There are only two plugs in the stateroom. There is a hairdryer provided in the stateroom which is good. I used theirs, even though I packed my own. There is also shampoo and body wash provided in a dispenser. No conditioner though. Oh! And here's a little tip, when you turn the shower on, if you press the button on the left knob as you turn it on it turns further, giving your more water pressure! As for the pools, there is one adult pool with 3 hot tubs - adults only. The kids pool is closer to the water slides. It's not overly exciting, but there is a Nickelodeon themed splash area right next to the kids pool with a shallow wading pool for smaller kids. I just remember thinking I wished the kids pool was similar to the adult pool, but I guess they couldn't do that because of the splash area and the slide exits. The kids program is good. Our son went a few times and really enjoyed himself. The Rock of Ages show is NOT kid appropriate, but a good, fun show for adults. The Burn the Floor show was amazing. We saw "Dueling Pianos" twice. That is some amazing talent! It's kid appropriate up until about 10pm, but it's is loud because it's in a "nightclub" type a room. The seats in the Breakaway theater are horrible. Just horrible. If I had one complaint, that would be it. There is a bar that will push across your butt. You have to slouch in your seat. I wish they would tear every seat out of the theater and replace it. Spice H2O is an adult only area only from 6am - 7pm. After that, anyone is allowed.

Like anything you will find a lot of positive and negative reviews about everything. Personally, I love the food and had no issues with the food.
As far as the pool is concerned, there is only one pool and it tends to get crowded.

Don't pay attention to reviews. I've found that for the most part, negative reviews are mostly from people who are always unhappy. I had a great time on the Breakaway last October and I am embarking again this September. Just go with a positive attitude and you will have a great time.
I was on the Breakaway in early March of this year. Besides the water slides, the pools/hot tubs are essentially the same as they are on any other NCL ship. Once we got to an area where the weather was warmer, on sea days, the pools were very full. In port, even when the weather was warn, the pool deck was a ghost town. This is no different than any other NCL ship I have been on though. If you plan accordingly, you will be able to use the pools. Other than the crowds, there really was no problem with the pools. I think people hogging the hot tubs is a bigger issue than the pools. At times, the water slides had lines, but nothing outrageous.
