Newbie Question: Boxed Lunch for Day off Boat

Travelling with the teens/tweens. Is there an option to order boxed lunches to take with us when we go to the beach in Bermuda?

I found best is to take packaged granola bars or the prepackaged cheese crackers. these are okay to take off ship. definitely no fruits or veggies either off or back on ship. enjoy the local produce when you're there. I asked on my last cruises and NCL said as long as it was sealed/prepackaged it was okay. but you can normally find local spots that sell snack or sandwich items reasonable right off the ship.

No. You are prohibited to take any kind of food, vegetables or fruits into the country to prevent the risk of introducing parasites into the country. Normally, your bags won't be checked when you disembark at the port but if you have any prohibited food item, you can get fined.

No option for boxed lunches to go; eat a big meal before leaving the ship, and then again when you return. You can take some bottled water with you and there will be eateries around the beach area as well.

Where do you store your luggage?

There is plenty of space under the beds to store your suitcases. Even the large suitcases fit under the bed easily. You have a full sized closet and there is space in the bottom to store small bags. There is plenty of closet space and drawers to store all your clothes.

If you are referring to on the ship:
There will be a closet space for hanging clothes with around 20 hangers (if you need more hangers, you can ask your room steward for some more). Also, usually some drawers and shelves. A good place to store your suitcases, is under the bed (it helps to have a little bit smaller one, to fit inside of a bigger one).

Due to fire hazard issues, the staterooms do not have clothes iron and you are not allowed to bring irons on board the ship. However, you can request the Guest Services Desk or the cabin stewards they will be happy to bring you an iron and ironing board for a few hours.

Available; Yes. For safety reasons, there is not an iron in the staterooms, and you are not allowed to bring one on board. You can ask your room steward to borrow an iron & ironing board for a couple of hours.

Usually they have sofa beds in the mini-suites. Some configurations of the suite may have a roll away bed but it's usually a sofa bed.

Question

separate on board accounts

I will be traveling with friends, staying in the same cabin on the NCL Dawn. Can I get my own onboard account? if I buy gifts and such, It would be easier to have my own bill rather than divide everything up at the end of our vacation. Thank you.

Yes, you can get your own onboard account. You can do it now (on-line or call NCL 1.866.234.7350) or take care of it at check-in at the pier. Enjoy your cruise.

Yes of course. When you check-in at the port, each of you can setup your onboard spending account using your own credit card. Your stateroom key cards is also what you use to pay for all purchases onboard the ship. All the charges will be billed to your individual credit card.

You are cruising Freestyle. Formal clothes are not required on NCL. You can wear "smart casual" clothes to the specialty dining rooms and the main dining rooms.
There are no formal nights but they do have "dress up or not" nights where formals are suggested (but not required).
However, if you plan to have family portraits taken with the Captain, formals would be nice.

Some sort of dress/clothing is mandatory...
NCL suggests a business or resort casual, basically nice slacks collared shirt for the men, slacks, blouse, or sundress type outfit for the ladies. The will have a :Formal or Not" night where you can dress formally if you so desire, many people do, You will not be out of place however you chose to dress, and on many nights throughout the cruise there will be photographers available for studio type portraits.

Yes, all staterooms have a mini-fridge.
The amenities the ship's stateroom is just as in any hotel. Mini-fridge, phone, TV, coffee maker (not in inside & ocean view staterooms), ice bucket, beach towels, mini-safe, hair dryer, liquid soap and shampoo.

Question

Travelling with Kids (Teens & Tweens)

First cruise for my family. How would you suggest keeping in contact with the kiddos while on-board (since cell phones won't work/or cost to use is exorbitant)?
Is there a "message board" in a common area to leave notes for members in your party, etc?

Just a suggestion, we have seen family members using walkie talkies. I don't know how well they work with so much metal & stuff around the ship, I guess it would depend on their range & stuff.
We usually just have certain meeting times & places, and leave notes in the stateroom.

You are correct about cell phones being off limit during the cruise. They will work but will cost a lot.
When we cruised with family members we would make arrangements on where to meet, say lunch at 12 noon in the Garden cafe. We also gave each other a list of locations where we will likely be during the day. We even leave notes in the room. That way if they can't find us anywhere they can check the room to see if we left each other any notes.

How long before we leave do I find out what my room number will be?

Assuming you reserved a "GTY" or guarantee room; you would usually find out anywhere from 14 - 30 days prior to your sailing, but it could be that you may only find out your stateroom location at the day you check in. But in most instances though by 2 weeks prior to your cruise you usually find out.
Otherwise you should know your stateroom number at the time you make your reservation if it is not a guarantee room.

From your question I would think you have a 'guarantee accommodation'. If that is the case, the rate you pay for the stateroom is a discounted rate (instead of picking your own room). The stateroom can be assigned at any time after the final payment, and may be assigned even up to the time of check-in. You can keep checking the web site 'My NCL' to see if they have assigned the stateroom number yet or not.

I assume you booked a guarantee stateroom. Usually you'll find out a week or two prior to sailing, but it varies from cruise to cruise. It could be as late as at check-in. The uncertainty that goes with a guarantee booking is one of the reasons they're somewhat cheaper than other staterooms.

Question

Is there a one person rate for the Dawn Ship

asked 1 year ago

answer 1
Unfortunately no. Only the newer ships in NCL's fleet have the studio staterooms for solo travelers. On the Dawn, you will need to pay the price a higher price for the room.
If you can, I would suggest looking for a cruise on the Breakaway, Getaway, Epic or Pride of America. All of them offer the studio staterooms.

The Dawn does not have the studio rooms yet. Staying in a stateroom, by yourself, you would have to pay the supplement.
