The deck plans for the Gem do not show a movie theater, but the auditorium and lounges may be able to show movies. Check the daily activities schedule on board your cruise to see if movies are scheduled for any of these venues.

No dedicated movie theater and if/when they show movies it would likely be in the Stardust. Unfortunately what will be playing on any cruise is not published ahead of time.

I see that several of the specialty restaurants are now a la carte. How does that work if we buy a meal plan?

This question comes up frequently. NCL recently has been converting many of their specialty restaurants to ala carte service. It used to be that you could pay a fixed cover charge to dine in one of the specialty venues, and you were allowed to select just about anything from the menu at no extra cost. Now with ala carte pricing you pay for each item you select. With the dining plan, however, you may choose any item from the menu, except for one or two premium items in Cagney's or Ocean Blue which incur an extra charge. You even can select multiple appetizers, entrees or desserts at no extra cost. A few of the ala carte restaurants do add a cover charge to your meal. For a list of those which do, and for more info on ala carte dining, see this link:

It's my understanding, based on our last cruise, that the dining package includes one appetizer, soup, salad and entree per person. There is an upcharge for dinner shows (i.e., Illusionarium), Ocean Blue, and a few others which are not applicable to the Gem. Refer to the following link for more details.

Question

how soon can we start making reservations for excusions and restuarants on the Gem

our cruise leaves 11/27/2016. Can we make reservations online? When will the list of excursions be provided (only 8 are showing right now)?

You may begin making restaurant and entertainment reservations online 90 days before your ship's departure date, or 100 days if you are booked in a Suite or the Haven. Shore excursions sometimes are added as the cruise date approaches, as NCL has to confirm their arrangements with local tour providers, and it occasionally takes a while to work out all the details and get the listing online. If you do not see the excursions you want by about six months before your cruise, you may want to contact NCL for an update, or make your own arrangements directly with a local tour provider. It may cost less to go directly to the local source, but keep in mind that if an NCL tour is running late, they will hold the ship's departure for you. If you are on your own, well, you're on your own.

Dining reservations can only be made within 90 days (100 days for suites) of departure. Shore excursions can be made as soon as they are available online but the full list is not posted until NCL has confirmed the arrangements. Usually the full list is available about 90 days prior to departure, but check occasionally as popular excursions book quickly.

In January I ordered JD on the rocks so it's reasonable to assume you can get a shot. Note however that you can only order 1 drink at a time so if you're thinking of a shot with a beer you can't order them at the same time. Refer to the following link for terms & conditions.

Question

debarking off the ship in San Juan

we are on the Gem in October out of San Juan and I know the ships get back to port around 6am and customs must clear the ship, so once it is cleared and if we are using self assist to carry our own luggage off, what could be the earliest we can be off the ship for booking a flight?

thanks for the response, just was wondering as long as the ship is cleared within the time is booking a 12 noon domestic flight out of San Juan suitable or should we look for a little later flight? If I remember the airport is about 20 mins from the cruise port and a $25 cab ride?

Based on arrival time of 8:00 AM back to port of origin suite guests followed by passengers walking off with their luggage are the first to disembark and remaining passengers disembark in 20-30 minute intervals, based on the time slot they chose a day or two before return, beginning about 30-45 minutes after return to port. Usually the ship is cleared of all passengers within 2-3 hours of return to port. For 6:00 AM I'm not sure if there is a delayed time to begin disembarkation.
