Wifi is available and is charged by the minutes. I believe the smallest package is around $25 (can't remember the number of minutes but it isn't many).

The ship's water is made from sea water by evaporation or reverse osmosis and is purer than tap water. It is my understanding that it is fine for use in a CPAP machine.

Distilled water is only available upon request prior to the cruise with at least two weeks notice. A request must be received by the Access Desk no later than 14 days prior to the sailing (in writing). The guest has to advise the exact amount needed for the duration of the cruise.

Question

What are all of the extras that come with a suite room?

I heard we would be invited to a captain's dinner etc. I am looking for extras not mentioned on the website list. Also, do we get to eat at Cagney's for lunch and is that off their dinner menu or are there different options?

Breakfast and lunch at Cagney's is delightful. If your suite is part of the Haven you can request either of these meals to be served to you by the pool. I think you can have these in your cabin as well. Not sure about the regular suites as far as having either of these meals delivered to your cabin. Diner has a cover charge, but we have enjoyed these meals as well.

Yes you get to eat Breakfast and Lunch at Carney's. Lunch menu is a little different than Dinner. But you have to paid a small fee for Dinner. If your Suite is above a Mini Suite, your in luck. You will have a Butler, to tend to your needs, also some Suites have access to the lovely Haven, and more surprises ahead.

NCL ships do not have a Captains dinner. Cagney's is open for lunch for guests staying in the Haven and the suites. You can have dinner at the restaurant but there is a cover charge for dinner.

Is anything special happening onboard for halloween?

There are lots of Halloween themed events and parties. There will be candy stations around the ship. Costume contests, scavenger hunts and other events for kids and adults. You can always bring your costumes and wear it to the parties but don't expect a lot of people to wear costumes - most people forget to pack their costumes.

I am sure that the CD will have events for the day and they will be outlined in the Freestyle Daily. Even if this weren't the case a costume would be appropriate if that's what you want to wear.

I have seen people with walkie talkies. Anything you do with your cell phone will cost you money either from your provider (calling, texting) or in internet time (email, im). You might either have to just plan things so people know where to go at certain times, or go with post-it notes. You could even attach a magnetic whiteboard to your stateroom doors to write notes.

If you have smart phones (i.e., Android or iPhone) you can stay in touch with NCL's iConcierge app, refer to te following link for details.

http://www.ncl.com/apps

Other options are using the onboard phone system to leave messages or pre-determined times & locations to meet.

NCL does have an iConcierge app that allows you to text and call other guests onboard the ship. However, it is not yet available onboard the Gem. All our recent cruises have been on NCL's newer ship that has iConcierge but before they had the iConcierge app, we used to leave post-it notes on the stateroom door.

Question

Charge for Childern Specility Dining

Hi taking our Grandson (he is now 5) on the Gem next month. Would like to go to Le Bistro & LaCucina with him. We did Cagney's last year but can't remember. Is there a charge for him (half or all) or can he order from the kids menu like in MDR?
Thanks

If kids order from the kids menu then there is no cover charge at any of the specialty restaurants. They also have a special kids menu and if they order from that menu then there is a 50% cover charge.
