WHERE IS THE PORT NEAR

The passenger terminal is at the Aloha Tower on Honolulu Harbor at the foot of Bishop St, right on the edge of downtown. It's about mid-way between HNL airport and Waikiki. At this point Nimitz Hwy turns into Ala Moana Blvd.

If you are talking about boarding the ship to start the cruise, it leaves from Honolulu and the port is a very short distance from downtown Honolulu.

The question is incomplete.
If you are looking for directions to a port, check out the section "Getting ready for your cruise" on NCL's website. It has the addresses for each port under "Getting to the pier"

Does the ship cruise by the molten lava flow into the ocean between Hilo and Kona.

The last cruise we did on Pride of Hawaii did cruise by the lava flow when it was dark and we could see the red lava.

Was told that the lava is not flowing into sea right now, but if that changes the ship may change it's course & sail around the south end of the island again.

According to the cruise map, the ship sails around the north coast of the Big Island. So, NO, you won't see the lava flowing into the sea at night, like we did in 2009. At that time most of the cruises sailed around the south coast from Hilo to Kona.

Two hours in advance if you are not checked in and one hour if you are already checked in. So the latest would be at 6, but don't cut it too close.

Usually they start the check-in process about 5 hours ahead of the sail time and start boarding 4 hours ahead. You have to check in at least 2 hours ahead of sail time. If you are at the port around 4 PM you should be fine.
If your flight gets delayed, make sure you contact NCL and inform them, so that they are aware that you may get delayed.

when is thebest time of year to go to Hawaii

answer 1
Any time is a good time. We went in late January 2009, and had perfect weather. However, the winter months can be windier and ranier than the rest of the year. January & February are best for whale watching. The whales head back to Alaska in the Spring and are absent all Summer, returning in the late Fall.

The weather is in the 80's year around. The winters are slightly more pleasant. Avoid the holiday season if you can.

Can you rent a car at the airport in Honolulu and can that car be returned to a spot near our hotel before we depart on the ship?

Check with your car rental comapny. Most have drop offs in Waikiki. You can get a taxi from there to the pier in downtown Honolulu without taking your car all the out to the airport and catching a taxi back to the pier.

Most car rental companies allow you to rent from one location and return it to another location as long as it is in the same city. You will have to check with your car rental company if they charge a "vehicle recovery" fee.

Question

What is the recommended earliest flight out of Honolulu?

Many of the cheaper flights leaving Honolulu on Saturday seem to leave at 8a. Is that too early to book a flight home? What time would you recommend a flight home? We really don't want to be stuck at the airport all day long. Thanks! :)

We had a flight at 10: 00 pm, but there are several shore excursions available. We had been to Pearl Harbor on a pre-trip, but we did take a shore excursion to the North Shore. It was great to see this area, and they took our luggage on the bus during that time. It ended at the airport.

Unfortunately there is no way you will be able to make a 8 AM flight. The ship docks at around 7 AM. Once the ship is cleared by the port authorities, the first ones to disembark are the VIP guests and guests carrying their own luggage.
Even with early disembarkment you still will be at the curb around 8 AM. So a 8 AM or 9 AM flight is out of the question.
To be safe, I would say book a flight after 12 PM. If the flights are too expensive, you may want to consider booking into a hotel for one night. It may turn out to be cheaper that way.

When you disembark on May 11, catch a taxi. It's about 15 minutes to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, straight east on Ala Moana Blvd toward Diamond Head. Fortunately, the resort is at the end of Waikiki nearer to the port and downtown Honolulu. It's a mostly scenic drive past Ala Moana Beach Park.

The ship docks at Honolulu Harbor, Aloha Tower, downtown Honolulu. It takes 15-20 minutes by taxi from the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which fortunately is at the west end of Waikiki, nearest downtown. You come out of the resort onto Ala Moana Blvd, heading west, straight to downtown.

Possibly. This is a tender port so I would allow extra time. If I've read correctly, first off will be suite passengers, those with NCL excursions then other passangers.

Probably not. Per the scheduled arrival time on the itinerary, the ship anchors about 7:00-7:30. Then you have to tender ashore to the pier. It's not far to the pier, but it still takes time to board the tender and make the 10-15 minute shuttle ashore.
