Leaving out of New Orleans on the Jewel. Are we allowed to pack our water and have it checked with our luggage?

I packed a 24 pack of Coke and had no problem in Tampa. Didn't even realize there may be a problem.

I packed some water last Jan. I had to go down and open my bag to reveal what I had packed. When they found out it as just a few bottles of water, they smiled and let me have my bag. New Orleans WILL NOT let you check water in. I have bought a small luggage carrier from Walmart that I am planning on carrying my water onboard. This will fold up and I can put it in my suitcase coming back.

Please be aware, there are two ports that do not allow you to check a case of water or soda. Tampa and New Orleans. NCL does not have an issue with either port, it is the dock workers that will not take it. Be prepared as you will be disappointed if you plan on checking it in.
This is our 5th trip out of New Orleans and they have been refusing cases of water and soda on every trip. As long as your ready to carry it on you will be fine.

I'M A BIT CONFUSED CUZ I JUST SPOKE WITH A NORWEGIAN REP, & SHE SAID YOU CAN CHECK A CASE OF WATER (IT'LL COUNT AS I OF YOUR 2 CHECKED BAGS) IF YOU'RE GOING OUT OF NEW ORLEANS.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CALL NCL & SEE WHAT THEY SAY. IF THEY TELL YOU "NO" WILL YOU PLEASE POST THAT ON HERE OR YOU CAN POST IT ON MY QUESTION ( IF I BRING A CASE OF WATER ONBOARD IS IT CONSIDERED AS 1 OF MY CHECKED BAGS?) WHICH CURRENTLY HAS 0 ANSWERS.
THANKS

No, New Orleans is one of the ports that don't allow checked water or soda. If it is inside a suitcase or bag and the dock workers can't tell what it is it will get on the ship. More than likely it will be viewed on the xray machine and you will have to go retrieve it after you board.
If you pack it in a suitcase, be prepared as they are handled a lot and stacked very high when loading the ship.

I would plan on carrying it on and not checking it.

No. There are no self-service laundries. All ships offer laundry, dry clean & pressing services. They have laundry bags in your stateroom that you can give to the cabin stewards. Usually around the middle of the cruise they offer discounts on the services.
However, I wouldn't use it for any delicate or expensive dresses.

The bathrooms have liquid body wash and shampoo dispensers. The sinks have soap dispensers. They soaps are some generic brand that and the cabin stewards refill the dispensers.
I would suggest packing your own favorite brand of soap and shampoos in your luggage.

There are sports bars with televisions onboard and if there is a satellite signal then they would be most likely to put on the game, however theres no way to confirm that until you are onboard.

Games are sometimes shown in the bars. Ask if the one you want is available and perhaps they can tune it in for you. Depends on what is available on the ship.

No. Due to fire hazard issues, the staterooms do not have clothes iron and you are not allowed to bring irons on board the ship. However, you can request the Guest Services Desk or the cabin stewards they will be happy to bring you an iron and ironing board for a few hours.

Question

What does GTY stand for after cabin number?

asked 8 months ago
by
scrapironmike
on Norwegian Jewel
4 answers
Answers
answer 1
GTY is for guarantee accommodation. The rate you got the room is a discount rate which means that the room will be assigned any time after the final payment is done. In some cases, the cabin may be assigned at the time of check-in. Log into your NCL account and check often for updates.

GTY means you booked a guaranteed stateroom category at a discount. Your stateroom number will be assigned any time between now and up to & including the day you check in.

Guarantee which means your stateroom will be assigned to you anywhere from 30 days to the day of departure. You will get at the very least a cabin in the category you paid for, but there is a good chance you could be upgraded as well.

GTY mean it is a guaranty cabin. You get a discount on the price and NCL selects the room you will be in. You will get at least the class of cabin you book or one that is better. You must be happy with being placed anywhere on the ship that has that cabin category. For example, if you select a inside cabin, you may be placed in any inside cabin on the ship on any deck, you do not get to select. You could get a higher level cabin such as an ocean view. The cabin will be selected for you anytime from booking right up until the time you arrive at the ship.

It depends if your Alaska cruise is departing and returning to the same US port, regardless of your itinerary ports. If it does, you are ok with a birth certificate, if it does not, you must have a passport.
answered 7 months ago

BaracW
answer 2
YES. You will clear customs upon a return to the United States. Almost every cruise stop in a foreign port at least once. If you stop in Canada, you will need a passport to return to the US.

answer 3
For US citizens, passport is not required. Birth certificate and a photo id are sufficient.
However, it is always advisable to carry a passport. In case you miss the ship and get stranded in a foreign country, you will need a passport to fly back.
