Question

what time can you board the ship, on the first day of departure?

answer 1
The check-in process usually starts at around 11 AM and they will let you board the ship around 12 noon. However, you will not be allowed into your staterooms until 2-3PM to give the staff enough time to clean the rooms. You can have lunch on board the ship and explore the public areas of the ship.

boarding starts as early as 11am, although your room may not be ready until early afternoon, before you sail. I'd say 12 noon is a very safe time, even though it will take a bit to get through the check in so arriving earlier than 12 is still ok, and you won't be sitting around waiting.

The Caribbean countries have tropical climate and the temperatures are around 80-90 degrees year around. In summer, the climate is a lot more humid. Remember to dress accordingly and carry plenty of fluids when on a shore excursion.

Where do I find what BA, BC, BX etc mean?

Also, BX indicates a balcony guarantee. You will pay a discounted price and will be placed in a balcony that NCL chooses. It could be any balcony on the ship and you may not know your assignment until boarding, although this is unusual. The other "B" categories are as the other posters state.

Those are stateroom categories; when you search your specific ship and explore staterooms, you will see different color codes and each different color represents a different stateroom category.

BA, BC, BX, etc. refers to stateroom categories which are viewable via the "Staterooms" link above. The primary difference in category is location (deck, forward, aft, mid-ship, etc.).

Sometimes. The menu in the main dining room changes daily and we have seen lobster in a couple of the trips. In addition they will have something like lobster ravioli or lobster and shrimp pasta with a few pieces of lobster.

Yes. One night on a 7 day cruise will be a combination warm water lobster tail and fish. Not a cold water lobster. There is also a cold water lobster tail option in Cagney's steak house for an extra charge.

All vessels are equipped with 110V & 220V outlets. Location of the outlet varies by ship. You are able to arrange bringing an extension cord onboard if necessary. Please contact the Access Desk for further details.

There is at least one 110V outlet in each cabin. Most suggest you bring an extension cord to ensure you can connect.

Question

Keeping track of your children while on board?

I am traveling on the 23rd of September with my two childrent (16 and 13). Is there a way of keeping track of them during the cruise? Do they have something like walkie talkies, or can we bring our own walkie talkies to keep in touch with them?

Thanks for any info...

I've traveled with teens before and the best way we've found was to have regular check-ins throughout the day. Keeping teens with you at all times is quite impractical, as they want to to do completely different things than the adults do. Plus, there's always the "cool" factor to consider. We tried walkie talkies before and they didn't work at all. Check-ins are the most practical way to go.

Walkie talkies do not work well on ships because of the metal hull. The ship does not provide them for the same reason. Many make a schedule among the group for the day. Check in times throughout the day seems to work best.

Best way to keep track of kids is to stay with them at all times. :-)
However, you can use walkie talkies but remember that walkie talkies are low powered, short range equipment and the ship is mainly metal. You may not have reception at all time.

Trying to save lounges without being there to use them is not allowed. So you can't get up at 7 AM, put a towel on a lounge and then go eat or back to bed.

There are plenty of lounge chairs around the pool and sun decks. Not everyone wants the chairs near the pool. Some prefer the quieter sun deck as they relax, read, etc.
Usually no one uses the pool early in the morning anyway. It usually gets crowded around noon and early afternoon.

The amenities the ship's stateroom is just as in any hotel. Fridge, TV, coffee maker, ice buckets, beach towels, mini-safe, alarm clock, hair dryers, soaps and shampoo.

If you prefer a certain brand of shampoo and conditioner, I would suggest that you carry them on board with you.
