Question

Norwegian Sun vs. Norwegian Epic

I recently returned from a cruise on the Epic and loved our inside stateroom, as well as our meals in both dining rooms (The Manhattan and Taste). I'm wondering how the Sun might compare in terms of food quality and the conditon of the staterooms?

I thought the food on the Sun was delicious! Whether it was the buffet or Seven Seas Main Dining Room or one of the specialty restaurants.........ALL GOOD!
My steak in the steakhouse was AWESOME and I especially enjoyed the Italian Restaurant!

The dining and staterooms are virtually identical. Overall differences are very minor. The greatest thing you will notice is that the Epic, being much larger, has many more passengers and popular common areas (the pools and shows) will be much more crowded. With much the same amenities, I found the Sun to be quieter, more relaxed, and service was a touch more personal.

My husband and I have cruised on both the Epic and the Sun in the last two years. We had a balcony stateroom on the Sun and inside room on the Epic. We enjoyed the staterooms of both ships very much, the only main difference in the bathrooms. The bathrooms on the Sun are an all in one unit housing the shower, toilet, and sink. The shower space on the Sun is smaller than the Epic but not an inconvenience. There was plenty of storage space in both cabins.

We felt that the amenities offered on the Sun were much better thought out than the Epic. It seemed that there was a more personal touch to the dining accommodations and stateroom stewards. We actually felt that the food offered on the Sun was much better quality than the Epic. The buffet, main dining rooms, and specialty restaurants were all better on the Sun. We also liked the nightly entertainment offered on the Sun much better than the repeated showings on the Epic. We will definitely be cruising the Sun over the Epic on the future.

I have also sailed on the Epic before, and on two other ships (not the Sun...yet!), and the basic difference between the staterooms on the Epic vs. some of the older ships is the modern touches. Other than that, NCL has comfortable rooms, you just may not have modern-looking decor.
The food is always good. The Sun has two main dining rooms as well that I'm sure are equally as good.
Have fun on your cruise!

The food is excellent in all the NCL ships that I have cruised. NCL maintains it's food standards throughout it's fleet. I never had a bad experience on NCL.
The staterooms are equally good.

A table for one is as easy to get as a table for two, four, eight, or even 12. NCL recoginizes that this is your vacation and they go out of their way to respect all of your choices. A single guest is valued the same as all other guests, they will be happy to seat you alone. They may ask if you prefer to be seated with another single but they will be happy to seat you alone. Enjoy your dinner no matter where you dine.

No problem at all. You just go to the restaurant and ask for a table for one. Your choice. I don't think they make reservations

As there is no assigned seating or times for dining you can ask the dining room hostess for a table for one, just like going to a restaurant at home.

There are no assigned tables in the restaurants on NCL ships. The tables are assigned on first come first serve basis. You can always ask for a table for 1. If you are dining at the specialty restaurants, you can make a reservation for 1.

Yes, you can get WIFI in your room, but it is not free or even cheap. You have to sign up for it and get logged in through the internet cafe before you can use it in your room.

They have DRESS UP OR NOT nights and some do and some don't.........and if you don't (I didn't) it's still very cool. FREESTYLE CRUISING IS TOTALLY AWESOME!

Note there is a dress code for the dining rooms at night meaning no swimsuits, flip flops and that sort of thing.

We never felt compelled to dress up at anytime however on "sea days" my wife and myself enjoyed wearing something different and special for the night time meal. Many did not and were neither frowned upon or did we feel uncomfortable when we decided not to .

The ones I have been on--they have a dress up or not night. You do not have to bring a tux or gown unless you want to. Some did so they could take formal pictures. Most did not.

Yes! You will find a laundry bag in your cabin that says LOL "I REFUSE TO DO LAUNDRY ON VACATION!" Your steward will pick it up for you. I used the service just recently on the SUN and used it on The Pearl and was very pleased. They usually will run a special mid-cruise and for a set price they will launder anything and everything that you can fit in the bag,

There are no self-service laundries. All ships offer laundry, dry clean & pressing services. They have laundry bags in your stateroom that you can give to the cabin stewards. Usually around the middle of the cruise they offer discounts on the services.
However, I wouldn't use it for any delicate or expensive dresses.

Personal checks will not be accepted, nor can they be cashed onboard.
US Traveler’s Checks can be cashed and are the same as cash which can be exchanged for Euros and GBP. However, there is a fee for all exchanges (buy and sell) of $10 per transaction. It is strongly recommended that guests buy all their foreign currencies ahead of the cruise, since the service onboard is very limited.

Unfortunately no. NCL does not accept personal checks. If you need Euros, you can exchange dollars or other currency on board at guest services or the casino.
The other option would be to get a traveler's check and exchange that for cash,
FYI, you don't need cash onboard the ship. Everything gets charged to your room card and billed to your credit/debit card. Other than at port, you really don't need to carry cash around.

Yes you can. NCL offers unlimited refills of Pepsi products with the soda package. You can buy it online before the cruise or buy it onboard the ship. You really don't have to pre-buy it as it is easily available onboard the ship.
Here's the link to the Bon Voyage section on NCL's website which has more information on the soda package.

Yes you can use a debit card. However, NCL discourages the use of debit cards simply because they can put a hold on the amount in your account and it can take up to 20-30 days before the hold is removed.
