The service charge that is added to your room charges at the end of the trip. To make tipping easy for the guests, you don't have to carry cash or add a tip every time you are at a restaurant or use any of the other services like room service, laundry etc. The tip that is added to your bill is shared by all the staff who provide you service and also the staff who work behind the scenes.
Personally, I don't think the charge is too much and the ship's staff deserves all the tip they get for their professionalism and the excellent service that they provide during your cruise.
I also like to give the wait staff in the specialty restaurant and the cabin steward an additional tip.
It's quite common practice in the cruising industry to have this charge added to your room charges.
