Question

4 People in a cabin - Do we all have to check in at the same time?

We have a mini suite with 4 people in the cabin. I want to get there early and check-in/board as soon as they start so that I can purchase vibe club access. Can the 2 couples check in separately if one couple does not arrive until later?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have difficulty getting the passes to the Vibe. I rarely see people in the Vibe area.

Even if you check-in early, boarding starts at 12 noon. All passengers must be onboard the ship by 2 PM. The passes aren't going to be sold out in two hours.
As far as checking in separately is concerned, I'm not sure if they can do that but even if they cannot and you check-in late, you will still be able to buy the passes.

The stateroom has a mini-fridge but no freezer. You cold check with the medical center onboard the ship and see if they can keep the ice packs in their freezer. Other option is to check with your cabin steward and see if they can make some kind of arrangement for you.

Check the headliners comedy club. They have shows by Second City and other entertainers. Fat Cats Jazz & Blues Club has music. They also have various themed parties like White Hot Party, 80's night, etc at the Spice H2O.

Like anything you will find a lot of positive and negative reviews about everything. Personally, I love the food and had no issues with the food.
As far as the pool is concerned, there is only one pool and it tends to get crowded.

Don't pay attention to reviews. I've found that for the most part, negative reviews are mostly from people who are always unhappy. I had a great time on the Breakaway last October and I am embarking again this September. Just go with a positive attitude and you will have a great time.

I was on the Breakaway in early March of this year. Besides the water slides, the pools/hot tubs are essentially the same as they are on any other NCL ship. Once we got to an area where the weather was warmer, on sea days, the pools were very full. In port, even when the weather was warn, the pool deck was a ghost town. This is no different than any other NCL ship I have been on though. If you plan accordingly, you will be able to use the pools. Other than the crowds, there really was no problem with the pools. I think people hogging the hot tubs is a bigger issue than the pools. At times, the water slides had lines, but nothing outrageous.

It represents the outline, or handrail, of the ship and would imply that the balcony might be slightly larger but I can't confirm that.

Question

How early can I arrive at the Terminal?

NYC - Breakaway to Bermuda on September 20. I want to be one of the first on the ship so I can secure vibe beach club access. Since I am traveling to NYC via Megabus, my arrival time options to NYC are: 5:50AM, 9:40AM, or 10:50AM.

Thanks!

I have left on NCL via NYC many times. I will tell you this, people will start arriving by 9am. You will not go through security until probably around 1030 and then they will perform check-in. Boarding starts usually between 1130 and 12. If you want an early boarding number, you need to be at the pier by no later than 10am. I will tell you, on my last cruise earlier this year, by 10am, there were probably over 300 people already there waiting to start the process going through security. There is a waiting area, and they seat you based on when you arrive, so that when they start the process of security and check-in, that is how you will line up. I always get there by 9am, and my boarding numbers are always within the first 5, so once they start boarding, I am on the ship quickly. It will take some patience to wait in the waiting areas, but I think it is worth it to board very early.

Check-in usually starts around 10:30, and boarding around noon, so either of the later options would work. If the bus goes to the Port Authority terminal, you'll have a short cab ride to the pier.

There is a parking garage (Park Rite) about 2 blocks from the pier that is way cheaper than parking at the pier. I used this garage on my cruise this year, and it could not have been easier. It seems like it is a very popular location for people to park that are cruising out of NYC.

You can park on the terminal rooftop which is convenient, safe and reasonable pricing for Manhattan. Refer to the following link for more info on the Manhattan cruise terminal.

As I recall cabanas are only available in the Vibe Beach Club which has a fee and you need to sign up for it at the Guest Services Desk the day of boarding. Access to Vibe Beach Club and cabanas are limited so get to Guest Services early if it's what you want during your cruise.
